Vancouver school district advises 800 teachers of possible layoffs
"The letter is not a layoff notice - it is the beginning of the process to prepare for possible layoffs," the district says in a release today. "The letters are being issued in accordance with teachers' collective agreement, which requires that notices of possible layoffs be issued by February 15 if the district is contemplating layoffs for the following year."
Vancouver council changes rules for private liquor stores
City council approved Tuesday a motion to allow private liquor stores to sell hard liquor as well as beer and wine when they first open.
The new rules will take effect immediately, Coun. Suzanne Anton said.
The old regulations required new private liquor stores to sell only beer and wine during their first year of operation.
